Just as the title leads to say, “Understanding” is a core component to this book. The first 10 chapters about the Qabalah were fascinating. Qabalah was explained enough to get a basic understanding of how to learn how the cards relate to it.
A good work on the foundational understanding of the tarot and it’s relation to qabalah and astrology. I like how he makes complicated, obscure, tedious ramblings of Croweley comprehensible to me, and even practical and wonderful.
I would have appreciated the symbolism much more when I was younger and was really into brain power kinds of things.

I enjoyed that there were short letters between Harris and Crowley on individual cards at the beginning of each card chapter, if I recall, that really help and are just interesting. Second, Lon describes his evolving mklo with the Thoth Tarot. And then I bought this book.
He makes Crowley’s work readable understandable in a way that gives me a new appreciation for the Kaballa and The Tree of Life and their place at the foundation of the Thoth Tarot. Lon Milo Duquette’s writing style is approachable, clear and funny. That rhoth posthumous note from “The Vision And The Voice” was completely off, especially since the Princes in the court card contradict that suggestion. Apr 03, Rob rated it it was amazing.
DuQuette teaches always amiably a dumbed-down version of Crowley. And keep studying the cards and milk a relashionship with them in terms of how you relate to what they represent and the areas of life they apply to typically. He then outlines all the things he fhoth he had when he started out.
I now feel I have a solid grasp of the deck and am able to get rich readings from it. Its been a few months since I read this. And this deck is too Thanks for telling us about the problem.
Its perusal may be omitted with advantage. The amount of space offered for each card is too little in my opinion and this is made worse by the fact that he chooses to describe the original Golden Dawn card without actually giving us a picture of the card!
Lon Milo DuQuette has been involved with occult studies since the late 60s and has become an acknowledged and widely-recognized authority within the world of modern occultism. Although Crowley’s own Book of Thoth provides insight into the cards, it is a complicated, dated book.

It sets the scene perfectly for the deck and is easy to follow.
Duquette does have the chops and everything is explained in a clear, well-organized manner. Another thing this book does well is show the symbolic possibilities tarot offers us in helping us understand and meditate on our lives, world and narratives. Crowley—maybe despite, maybe because of—the porphyry of his prose as well as its high quality and the strange and unique voice of the man coming duauette you through the written word is almost a great writer.
Now 4 stars, up one from before. This pattern repeats to varying degrees throughout the minor fhoth cards.

Great literature; allows you to form a foundation to build duquettd understanding on the topic. That said I have a massive fascination with his works. He also tries to clarify some of the more confusing golden dawn terms and how the Tree of Life works. Great Book – Bad Grammar I loved this book but only gave it four stars because I was so imlo by the numerous spelling and grammatical errors it contains.

Mostly I kon wanted the card reference but I suffered through the terrible conversational yet obscure rants of DuQuette. I don’t have any complaints. The only flaw I’d say is that he hides This book is a must for those who really want to use and understand the Thoth tarot. I feel that maybe he wouldnt state his own opinion much because he doesnt want to say anything that would be objectionable to many members of the OTO but I may be wrong about this.
Both applicable and informative it serves as a perfect companion next to “The Book of Thoth”. This chapter essentially concludes the book and starts on page You dont know unless you try I guess but duquetye your intuition. In the labyrinth that is Crowley, this book is practically essential.
