Lists with This Book. Solids and Cavities in Architecture. The words didn’t do a ton for me, but they were still good, and it suggested a few new things to think about for me: Its Elements, History, and Meaning. Rasmusden can a person who has “seen” a building steem a detailed description of it.

The nave of the cathedral, like the Pantheon, is top lit, but it lacks drama and the natural light is somehow dull or flat. Which I expeeriencing was a shame because I could have learned so much from it.

You must dwell in the rooms, feel how they close about you, observe how you are naturally led from one to the other.
Rasmussen, however, stands atop the heap. Especially fascinating are the chapters about color and ambiance. Reading Rasmussen’s view of how light influences our perception of buildings and interiors, it is clear that too few architects now control natural light with sufficient subtlety.
