Denied an outlet for his creative powers by Fascist control of literature, Pavese translated many 20th-century U. Books by Cesare Pavese. Shortly after receiving the Strega Prize for it, Pavese committed suicide in his hotel room by taking an overdose of pills.

One thing I really loathed was Pavese Reading diaries of real dead people has always made me uncomfortable, leaving me with the sense that I’m peeking into someone’s life and soul, the inner workings of a brain that I have no acquaintance with. He almost gets a grasp of the Dostoyevsky realm but his mistake is what he has to say is on the surface, very technical and dry.
