So much of this was just a rotating cast of characters lingering on one thought for a few minutes and then moving on to what the next group is up to.

The point is made so bluntly that character interactions from previous entries in the series are now questionable at best. It’s not that Scott has too many characters than a novel can feasibly support, but he doesn’t provide enough time for each of the character personalities to nigrromante.
