I need an antidote to Disgrace. I thoroughly disliked the main character, David Lurie — he is unbelievably arrogant and chauvinistic — but that seemed less and less important as the novel went on, and totally irrelevant by the end. There are just too many unread books out there for me to stop and go back in most cases, unless I’m made to do so for a class, which this time I was, just two years after first reading Disgrace.
