Very clear and authoritative but overall a bit dull, it sort of put me off attachment theory – I recognise its vital contribution to understanding clients but it doesn’t account for the wonderful richness and contradictory nature attahment human personality and experience. He doesn’t try to sell the reader on any one type of therapeutic approach he masterfully helps you understand that attachment issues may be alive and well in many of the clients we work with. It encourages to dig a bit deeper and to face the fear that a client may be displeased with therapy or angry as the therapist, and helps re-frame this as an opportunity for deepening both the therapeutic psychotherapyy and the relationship itself.

Lists with This Book. This is an outstanding wallln by the main thinkers in Attachment Theory and a must reference for anyone working in the field. I liked the inclusion of stories from therapy that demonstrated the theory being talked about. Few writers have the ability to write so directly and clearly about complex science and attachmebt his scholarship and reach are extraordinary. It sort of rocked iin world! The use of attachment as this kind of guide is a rich vein that has just begun to be tapped.
The Varieties of Attachment Experience. I use this book in my family therapy trauma course; Wallin beautifully illustrates the embeddedness of trauma and healing in attachment relationships.
